MedBiquitous creates technology standards to advance healthcare education and competence assessment. Standards include metadata for learning activities, healthcare professional profile data and virtual patients, to name just a few. Despite the variety in scope and topic, MedBiquitous standards share common design patterns that provide a cohesive structure to the standards framework. This session will review the common design patterns that MedBiquitous develops for the benefit of those participating in standards development projects and those leveraging MedBiquitous standards for data and content interchange. We will explore: " Extensibility for incorporation of data described by multiple standards " Common XML data structures " Types and uses of vocabularies " Referencing other standards The goal of this session is to increase the awareness and capacity of the MedBiquitous community in developing and implementing educational technology standards.
