The University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine’s employs innovative approaches to technology to further medical student and postgraduate education. Web 2.0 concepts influences the design of these tools - blogs, small group websites, student learning portfolios, and mentored scholarly project websites. These programs and sites such as YouTube, digg.com, and Wikipedia have stimulated a new type of learning management system. As we design this, questions arise. Will a curriculum that encourages student contributions be superior to one from only the experts? Are students’ ratings and comments valuable to the learning experience? Should content from outside sources be added by students? This presentation and discussion addresses these issues related to Web 2.0 technology and will strive for specific recommendations.
