A Process Mapping Simulation for Defining Best Practices for an Academic or Collegiate Unit

The University of Minnesota Academic Health Center (AHC) is developing a 21st Century hybrid model for interprofessional education. Our novel approach is to map University processes to integrate available technologies while building a sustainable education infrastructure for AHC colleges, research centers, and University-wide academic units. The goal is to transcend traditional barriers to: develop a robust, flexible, responsive educational platform that meets learner and workforce needs; provides multiple higher education/location access points; supports statewide partnerships by sharing coursework and best practices. The Process Mapping Initiative is documenting the processes, policies, systems, services, personnel and technology that represent University best practices. The workshop leaders, who are University senior administrators, will describe the model, reflect on lessons learned, and engage participants in an interactive workshop that simulates the mapping process and application of those techniques in order to understand how to develop hybrid based, learner centered education in their own institutions.
