European Virtual Patients Bank in Development

The European Commission has funded a project to develop a pan-European bank of virtual patients leveraging the emerging MedBiquitous Virtual Patient standard. Called the eViP Project, this three-year program will create a bank of virtual patients based upon cases which are already available throughout Europe and adapt these for multicultural and multilingual use. Project partners include St George s University of London, Karolinska Institute, Ludwig-Maximilians University Munich, Heidelberg University, Maastricht University, University  Iuliu Hatieganu  Cluj-Napoca, Uniwersytet JagielloĊ„ski, and University of Warwick.  MedBiquitous Annual Conference Presentations Available

Presentations from the MedBiquitous 2007 Annual Conference are now available. Some of the conference highlights were an outstanding talk on gaming design from Jesse Schell of Carnegie Mellon, a discussion of physician competence initiatives from Jim Thompson of the Federation of State Medical Boards, and a joint model for education and clinical decision support from Jerry Osheroff. The MedBiquitous 2008 Annual Conference will take place May 13-15 in Baltimore, Maryland. The conference promises to be another outstanding gathering of leaders transforming healthcare education and assessment using learning technologies. Mark your calendars!

Call for Abstracts

The MedBiquitous Executive Committee is seeking high-quality abstracts for half-day workshops, panel presentations, and technology demonstrations on a range of topics, including e-portfolios, virtual patients, competency frameworks, Web 2.0, and evaluation metrics. Priority will be given to abstracts focusing on the implementation of learning technology standards. Abstracts are due November 1 and may be submitted online. Membership Update

MedBiquitous is pleased to welcome the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses, American Osteopathic Association, American Thoracic Society, Medscape, Northern Ontario School of Medicine, Outcomes Inc., and Maastricht University as new members.

The American Association of Critical-Care Nurses is the world's largest specialty nursing organization and is dedicated to providing its members with the knowledge and resources necessary to provide optimal care to critically ill patients. American Osteopathic Association is a member association representing more than 61,000 osteopathic physicians (D.O.s). The AOA serves as the primary certifying body for D.O.s, and is the accrediting agency for all osteopathic medical colleges and health care facilities.
