1. New Draft of XML Member Profile Standard Available

The MedBiquitous Membership Management Working Group has completed new Working Drafts of the Member Profile specification and XML schema. The schema is a key building block that will be broadly useful across professional societies and their business partners. It provides the underlying technology for a number of enhancements to business processes that involve sending member information from one organization or system to another. The schema allows organizations to describe physician contact information, educational background, certification, training, and society memberships in a standard way so that this data can be easily exchanged with business partners, such as publishers and meeting organizers. If you are interested in using MedBiquitous standards to simplify the exchange of member information, visit the MedBiquitous XML Repository at http://www.medbiq.org/repository/ and follow the directions in Accessing the MedBiquitous Repository to create an account and download the schema and specification document.

2. Managing and Delivering Online Journals

MedBiquitous is convening the Journal Management Working Group to develop XML technologies to facilitate the management and online delivery of scientific journals for professional medical societies. As with other working groups, this group will begin with a barn raising, a one-day meeting in which Consortium members gather to construct technology that will benefit the community as a whole. The Meeting will be hosted by Sun Microsystems in their Menlo Park, California offices and will take place on December 3, 2002. Attendance is open to members only. If you are interested in participating in the meeting or in joining the Journal Management Working Group, contact info@medbiq.org. For more information about joining MedBiquitous, see our website at http://www.medbiq.org/.

3. Education Update: SCORM Design Guidelines

The MedBiquitous Education Working Group is developing design guidelines for creating reusable modules of medical education. The guidelines will help MedBiquitous members to implement the Advanced Distributed Learning Initiative's SCORM standards in a consistent manner, making it possible to find relevant educational resources and reuse them within or across organizations. The design guidelines will address best practices for content development, instructional design and integrity of content objects, sequencing of content objects, and metadata implementation. If you are a member of the MedBiquitous Consortium and you would like to provide input on the design guidelines, contact info@medbiq.org regarding participation in the Education Working Group.
