1. Annual Conference, May 10-11, 2004

MedBiquitous members, please join us May 10 and 11 for the MedBiquitous annual conference in Baltimore, Maryland. The conference will focus on implementing standards-based technologies to collaborate on better education and competence assessment. Professor Ronald Harden, General Secretary of the Association of Medical Education in Europe and a leader in collaborative efforts to advance medical education, will be the keynote speaker. Other speakers include Murray Kopelow, M.D., Chief Executive of the ACCME, and Philip Dodds, Chief Technical Architect, Advanced Distributed Learning Initiative.

2. MedBiquitous Receives ANSI Accreditation

MedBiquitous and the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) have announced approval of MedBiquitous as an ANSI accredited standards development organization. MedBiquitous is now accredited to develop technology standards for medical education and training, professional competence assessment, and related areas. MedBiquitous participates in ANSI's Healthcare Informatics Standards Board to coordinate its activities with those of other standards developers. For more information, see MedBiquitous procedures for developing American National Standards or the press release.

3. MedBiquitous Signs Agreement with ADL

MedBiquitous and the Advanced Distributed Learning (ADL) Co-laboratory have announced a Memorandum of Understanding acknowledging and strengthening the existing collaboration between the two groups on technology standards for healthcare education. The ADL Co-lab is the creator of the Shareable Content Object Reference Model (SCORM) suite of technology standards for e-learning, which enables access, interoperability, and reuse of modular units of e-learning. MedBiquitous is working closely with ADL to develop SCORM for Healthcare, a profile of the ADL SCORM reference model customized for healthcare. For more information, see the press release.

4. Member Profile Open for Comments

The Membership Management Working Group has approved the Member Profile draft standard, which provides a common format for exchanging member or healthcare professional contact, education, training, certification, occupation, and membership information. The standard is now a Request For Comments specification, and all MedBiquitous members can review and comment on the specification.

5. American Board of Pediatrics Joins MedBiquitous

MedBiquitous is pleased to welcome the American Board of Pediatrics (ABP) as its most recent member. As one of the 24 certifying boards of the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS), ABP seeks to advance the science, study, and practice of pediatrics. They are currently working with the American Academy of Pediatrics and MedBiquitous to implement standards for communicating information about physicians completing maintenance of certification activities.
