1. MedBiquitous Annual Conference, April 6-7

Registration is now open for the MedBiquitous 2005 Annual Conference in Baltimore, Maryland. The conference provides the opportunity for healthcare educators and learning technology strategists to learn about innovations that enable organizations to work together to improve healthcare education. This year features a pre-conference seminar on the use of SCORM for Healthcare from Nina Pasini Deibler of Carnegie Mellon University's Learning Systems Architecture Lab. Conference highlights include a keynote address on professional competence and patient safety from Carolyn Clancy, M.D., Director of the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality and panels on virtual patients point of care learning, lessons from the cockpit, content collaboratives, and evaluation metrics.

2. The Latest from MELD

Visit MELD (http://meld.medbiq.org/), the MedBiquitous E-Learning Discourse, to find out about topics that matter to professionals involved in healthcare education. Many educators feel that the best clinical learning emulates realistic clinical situations. In a recent article, Modeling Virtual Patients and Cases, Rachael Ellaway describes how virtual patients and cases are used in healthcare education and how technology standards can help us craft better learning tools in the future. To read the article, visit: http://meld.medbiq.org/primers/virtual_patients_cases_ellaway.htm

And if you're looking for a resource that provides some evidence for the effective use of e-learning, read Dr. Peter Greene's book review of E-learning and the Science of Instruction at: http://meld.medbiq.org/books/book_reviews/elearning_science_greene.htm

3. 2004 In Review

The MedBiquitous 2004 Annual Report is now available online. The report provides a summary of MedBiquitous accomplishments, including standards development projects and activities, and describes how members are using MedBiquitous standards to innovate and improve internal processes and collaborations with other organizations. The report also describes some of the resources MedBiquitous has provided to help its members and others learn more about the use of learning technology standards in healthcare.
