Nearly 200 participated in the meeting and heard presentations from Dr. Peter Pronovost, Dr. Donald Melnick, Dr. Murray Kopelow, and other leaders in healthcare education and competence assessment. But the highlight of the conference for many was the performance of The MedBiquitous Song by Ross Martin. If you can’t get enough MedBiquitous, download the presentations. The MedBiquitous Song MP3 is available at http://www.medbiq.org/medBiq_song.mp3, and the lyrics are available from Dr. Martin’s blog. Introduction to Healthcare InformaticsHave you ever wondered what it would take to have healthcare providers, patients, pharmacies, and even educators electronically connected to provide the best possible healthcare outcomes? Are you interested in learning what healthcare technology standards are all about? The American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA) and MedBiquitous have collaborated to develop Introduction to Healthcare Informatics Standards, an e-learning course authored by W. Ed Hammond. The course provides a broad overview of the landscape of healthcare informatics standards and focuses on the benefits that the adoption of standards might bring toward successful transformation of healthcare in the United States. This course uses case-based scenarios and examples to demonstrate how standards impact common clinician and patient activities and interactions. The course is conformant with the SCORM for Healthcare suite of standards and specifications for reusable e-learning. We gratefully acknowledge AcceleraRomar as our development partner and Pfizer for providing a grant to support the production of this course. For more information about the course, visit http://www.amia.org/e-learning/ihis/. Point of Care Learning and Competencies Working Groups LaunchedAt its annual conference, MedBiquitous launched the Point of Care Learning Working Group and the Competencies Working Group. The Point of Care Learning Working Group develops standards and guidelines to support offering clinicians learning at the point of care, tracking point of care learning, and using point of care learning data for needs assessment. The Competencies Working Group develops standards and guidelines for competency data, enabling educational resources and activities to be tied to a competency framework. Members are welcome to participate!
