1. Annual Conference Presentations Available
On May 15, the MedBiquitous Annual Conference drew 80 attendees from 37 organizations to hear outstanding presentations from a great selection of leaders in professional medicine and technology. Some of the first day's presentations included an explanation of Web services from IBM's Bob Sutor and a panel discussion on innovating medical education led by Dr. Bruce Spivey. Dr. Mike Magee of Pfizer closed the day with an inspiring presentation on the strength of the patient-doctor relationship and the need for MedBiquitous to strengthen that relationship as it grows into an important non-governmental organization. On the 16th, Sun Microsystems' Todd Freter gave a fantastic introduction to MedBiquitous's XML, and Howard Tanzman of American College of Surgeons and Tom Brantigan of TMA Resources gave a demonstration of member data exchange using MedBiquitous XML. Peter Pronovost with the Society of Critical Care Medicine described a pilot project to collect data and prevent intensive care unit errors. Many thanks to all who attended!
2. Education Standards Barn Raising
Join your colleagues and get to work! MedBiquitous is holding an Education Barn Raising meeting on June 26 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The meeting will be hosted by the ADL Co-lab in their Alexandria, Virginia offices outside of Washington, D.C. The meeting will focus on customizing the SCORM metadata standard for learning objects. By the end of the day, we will have a set of best practices for implementing SCORM metadata in professional medicine. Following the meeting, the Education Working Group will refine the customized standards. If you would like to attend the Barn Raising or participate in the working group, please contact Valerie Smothers at valerie.smothers@medbiq.org.
