The world has witnessed a dramatic explosion of interest in the field of on line education. Massive, open, on line courses (MOOCs) allow premier universities to share college and graduate level courses with anyone who has access to a computer. Entrepreneurs predict that anyone with an internet connection will soon be able to access a free college education. But what are the roles of MOOCs and other forms of on line learning in medical education? Will on line learning opportunities enhance or detract from our ability to educate the finest clinicians? Based on her experience with a MOOC on clinical problem solving, this speaker will explore the promise and pitfall of this new method of educating people around the world.
